Canon P re-paint. You'll need sunglasses. :)

I can vouch for the superficial paint job. Last year I bought a Canon P from Taiwanese eBay seller Shueido Studio that was touted as an immaculate black repaint with full CLA. In fact, if you hop onto eBay now you will see that almost all of these repaints are sold by Shueido.

...The black paint is a kind of thin matt coating over the top of the chrome. No chrome has been removed to reveal the base level brass or aluminium chassis like should be done in pro paint jobs.

... YMMV. Some of his Instagram images seem to show that he now possibly does dechrome bodies before applying paint.

A couple months ago I communicated with the Ebay seller regarding several repainted Leica and Nikon bodies. He claimed they were all de-chromed before re-painting. In addition, at times this same Ebay seller auctions bodies with artificial brassing (which should require de-chroming before the paint job and sanding). Anyway, just an FYI. I didn't pursue the matter to any purchase.

I would call him as reseller.

The camera you have shown here has completely different quality on re-paint from link in OP where it is nothing, but dink&dunk trashed camera.

That seller had a really nice grey P I wanted, but he doesnt want to ship to Canada 🙁

I actually ended up with this grey p and it does seem to have a superficial paint job I got it around thanksgiving and some of the paint wore through on the self timer and winder and a bit near the back release before the new year. I was also under the impression that it was de chromed prior to paint after seeing the work that goes into the re painting process on said instagram. It would have cost around the same to fix my previous busted p body so overall I'm fine with it given the supposed cla it came with which did leave an excess amount of oil on the shutter when I got it. Also had to adjust the rangefinder as it was off. The re paint is pretty well done for what it is this one has a gradient to it which I didn't really notice in the pictures but in person it is pretty neat. The body is also in much better condition than my previous so that is another plus for me as well. I think it is worth it but I paid about $200 after using an ebay coupon and I see they are selling them for much more now.

I'm thinking about covering my cameras in contact paper.

It is available in many attractive colors and patterns
and I'm told it is both durable and easy to clean.

Ah, the good life. I knew it involved photographic equipment 😀

I still think that guy offering those painted cameras is not doing a full-on job with most of them. I guess I understand --> $$$. We all need to bring it in. And, I suspect he/she? knows how to do a proper repaint as well. Probably for friends or wealthy customers. Some offer a case of beer, some bring a wad of cash. We live in a filthy world, eh 😉

Devin, some day I'll be in your neighborhood. I have long lost friend in the UP and I need to track that dude down and corral him into the nearest drinking establishment. Trust me, that's the appropriate thing to do. I mean, he's from Michigan, eh?

No rain today, I'm heading out!

He seems to be cullling them in good sized batches. That definitely helps keep the time down. The paint booth he has is a pretty nice unit as well. I like his little blasting cabinet although I would try not to blast a camera part myself. To much localized heat is created in my experience.

If he spends anywhere near the time I have.. the camera is basically free at those prices. Lol

I’ve never made a dime worth counting off painted cameras. I’ll do it for fun or a case
of beer! Actually wish I had local “camera friends” who could drop by and bug me in the shop for a quick chrome and nickel strip, a joint, and a few brews! That’s living the good life in my eyes!

I have two cameras on my list to paint. After that I’ll likely dispose of my chemistry kit.
I have also offered to do the pesky stripping for members. I wouldn’t mind putting together a batch soon!

Actually! Gonna start a thread right now!

Well it seems someone was listening. The latest e-bay adverts now show stripped down to the brass Canon P components. Unfortunately it is always the same picture irrespective of what the camera is (a VI-L for example). I really regret that we do not have some positive feedback as the pictures of the black ones do look good.
