I got a Claed Canon P from Japan recently (as well as an 35 2.8 RF lens I have already talked about) and am really happy about it. Viewfinder aligned and clear, and all speeds working.

Though I find the rewind sound is less "smoother" than my grandpa old Minolta SRT 101 SLR which is only a few years younger.
There is a light sound of scratching metal actually. Nothing like something is broken, but more like it is desperately asking for oil !

should I attemp something ?

One of the reasons I sold my P years back was because of the awful film advance. Very rough, and this was even after I sent it in for a CLA. Too bad actually, I know they're good cameras, but the rough advance and flary viewfinder have tainted my view of the P camera for years. I much prefer my L1.

In my imaginary, all RF were finer pieces of craft than any SLR from the same period ..

Wellll 🙂

I can't really consider it is rough. The sound is just more "metallic" than "mechanical" but I would say still usable yet.
I think I will leave as it is for now. Don't think anything can break ..

I have the same situation--my P is rough and the L1 is smooth as butter. I guess they had to save $$ somewhere.

Yes, some Canon P cameras have a very rough wind. I don't know why this is, the Canon 7 is much smoother. After looking inside at both cameras it is obvious that the Canon 7 has a more advanced mechanism, the Cann P has a mechanism similar to the earlier L models. Lubrication didn't help in the cameras I tried, but on the other hand, the cameras worked fine, regardless of the roughness.

Just FYI, my mid-production Canon P, which was CLA'd by Mark Hama just after I bought it, has an absolutely butter-smooth advance stroke. I'd bet they all did...50 years ago.

I've had rolls where the winding was rough enough to scare me and others when I could barely feel myself winding the film. Try on different shutter speeds — it may be a difference between the slow and fast mechanisms (I *think* mine has a tendency to be less smooth below 1/60).
I don't think it's much of a problem — the film winds and the shutter cocks.
