Canon Pixma Pro-100?

My beloved HP 9180 recently went to the Great Electronics Recycler in the Sky. Reason was that although they said it was repairable, the cost of a full set of inks would be the better part of a new better printer, and I would still have an 8 year old one.

They have a special rebate program on the Pixma Pro-100 until the end of the year which makes the bottom line price $135-ish, which is actually cheaper than a complete set of inks.

Any reasons why I should not "pull the trigger" on this one?

Anybody use one personally?

My wife and I have been using ours quite a bit for the past year, myself for printing family snaps and her for printing digital artwork. Ink can get a little pricey, but isn't all ink? No complaints from us at all and very happy with it.

Adorama had a deal last year where you could buy a Pixma Pro-100 for only $50.00 (all kinds of rebates). I hopped on it. I’m 100% satisfied with the results I’m getting. Great color pics and nice B&W’s too. It is a big, heavy printer, and finding a space for it in our house was a challenge, but it is wireless so can be put any place you have the room. Ink seems to last a long time too. For the price I paid, it’s an absolute bargain.

Thanks. I just pulled the trigger.

The ink for the Pro-100 seems much cheaper than that for the 9180. Canon brand ink appears to be available for $16-ish. My last couple of 9180 inks were $30-some!

I have two of them--one at home, one at work. I use them only for day-to-day printing, and black and white photos, so I haven't been concerned about color longevity. Consequently, I've been running cheap (around $30 for a full set) off-brand inks from Amazon, with absolutely no problems. In fact, I've successfully run off-brand inks for years without anything horrible happening to any of my printers. You KNOW the ink part of it is a scam, and where they make their money.

With the off-inks, the color is fine, too; I just don't know how long it will last, and the supplier isn't making promises.
