On another forum here at RFF there's a "$40 challenge" going on that I was planning to add this very recent purchase to until I realized digital cameras were excluded from the challenge. 🙁

Oh well, I think it's a dandy for the $40 I paid 🙂 - hardly used, in the box, with all the stuff it originally came with. The guy even through in a nice Lowepro case and a 4GB SDHC card.

I really like how tiny it is! It's kind of an HD video camera, but then kind of a nice still camera too? Got it off Cra*g's L*st.

Anyone here tried one of these? Thoughts? Pro's / Con's, etc.

If you paid $40 then you got a steel. they sell for a lot more. DPReview says it's OK.

My brother in law and father in law both have one of these. I think the B-i-L uses his at work (he's a Surveyor). They're OK, I suppose, but not too exciting. I think they didn't catch on because of the unusual handling, but it's pretty normal for anyone who's used video.

My F-i-L is formerly a keen photographer, but I think he settles for snaps these days.

Thanks for the comments and link to the review. I agree with comments about the unusual handling. I have a strong video background so that works well for me. Because of it's diminutive size it's probably better for smaller hands too.

Here's a couple of example photos from my new to me Canon PowerShot TX-1. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. It takes nice videos too! The form factor has worked well for me YMMV.
