I'm looking for an original hood for my Canon RF 100mm F3.5.
I have the earlier version that takes 34mm filters, and have picked up a few of the original Canon (flat one side) filters.

Does the lens take a Clamp-on Lenshood, like the other Canon lenses? Can anybody post a photo, it seems to be a rather rare item. What is the Canon designation?

Thanks!
-Dan

Peter K's book on Canon lenses has 4 types of 100/3.5 lenses that accept 34mm filters. He says that the lens hood is identified as 100 f3.5 screw-in type that is appropriate for all 4, as well as a 36mm clamp-on style that was made available for the Type 4 lens. I have never seen a genuine Canon hood for the mostly chrome lens. Good luck with the search

Thank you very much for that, Dexdog.

I have Peter's excellent lensbook, I see I have a type 3 100mm F3.5 lens.

After doing some Googling, I found this old thread. Here is a photo of the type 4 clampon hood. (Should have figured Benny Ng would have one!) :p

Anyway, now I know what it looks like, and what I am looking for:

Thanks Again!

I think I will buy a cheap generic 34mm hood and filter for now. The lens is now leaving the house, for Essex Camera Repair CLA, along with Canon 7S and Canon VT bodies.

Dan,

Going for the complete set up? Anyway, you've seen my post in the link you reference. If you need help with the original hood, let me know and I'll try to help. Also, you might want to match the hood back to the lens markings. If I recall correctly, there are at least 3 variations on the markings engraved on the hood and obviously 2 types of adapter, screw in and clamp on.

Cheers,

I have been looking for a hood for the 100/3.5 I picked up. Very hard to find.

What are the measurements of the hood? (Diameter and depth)

This is the one you're looking for. The screw ring is 34mm. Shade screw is 44-45mm (can't measure precisely) Depth is about 20mm.Untitled-2.jpg

Hi Dexdog and others,

Back on line after a computer crash and getting around Window 7 among other things.

There are actually 6 (4 x 34mm, 1 x 36mm and 1 x 40mm) variations of hoods for the RF 100mm f/3.5 lenses.
  1. Series VI Serenar f : 3.5 100mm (recorded) 34mm screw-in
  2. Series V1 Canon Lens + f : 3.5 100mm (none recorded so unknown) 34mm screw-in
  3. Series VI Canon Lens 100mm f : 3.5 (recorded) 34mm screw-in
  4. Canon Lens 100mm f : 3.5 (recorded) early serif in Canon. 34mm screw-in
  5. Canon Lens 100mm f : 3.5 (recorded) late serif in Canon. 36mm clamp-on
  6. T-42 clamp-on style with thumb screw (recorded). 42mm clamp-on
The serif in the "C" as in the company name "Canon" changed sometime in 1957 and that and the size is the only difference between T4 and T5...just being a collector I suppose

I didn't actually indicate in the book what hood matched the lens you may have but indicated a "T#"for that hood. Basically the hood matches the same type of info that is on the lens.

This was done in case the user or collector wanted to match that lens with cameras and accessories to make a complete kit for that era it was produced.

It is something that has interested me while collecting and using some of my gear. Peter

Peter,

There is also a version of the hood that is marked 100mm f/3.5 for the 40mm size filter black lens. It's not the T-42 version. When I have the time, I will show you the pictures.

Cheers,

I'll give you guys an update in July when I get the chance. The gear are in transit now and I won't have access till then.

Cheers,

From a friendly fellow RFF'er.

Here is VT with 100mm F3.5, new Original Canon 100mm F3.5 Lenshood (the screw-in variety) and the Original Canon Case, which tightly holds the 100mm, the finder, and the lenshood.

I am pleased.

So where did you end up finding an original lens hood from?

I've been looking for several years for my latest version 100/3.5. I gave up and use a Kodak hood. This has been my most frustrating search. Everything else that I searched for I eventual found including some relatively uncommon items

Yeah, few and far between, it seems.

I did finally pick up a case for my 50mm 1.8, and a 35mm/2.8 lens/finder/case combo. And it came with a IV-Sb that I was going to use for parts, but it is in better shape than my father's! Slow shutter works, and I just need to test the shutter curtain.

So my collection grows as well - But there's always something missing.

Series VI Filters for the Canon 100mm F3.5 Hood.

Series VI Filters for the Canon 100mm F3.5 Hood.

Just returned from Midwest Photo, bought all these Series VI filters for the Canon 100mm F3.5 lenshood for ten bucks! :)

A complete set of ND filters, I'm especially pleased about that.

The Hood unscrews, and the Series VI filter fits tightly inside the hood.

Still looking for a plastic lenscap that will fit the front of my new hoods.

I have discovered that a generic clip-on 40.5mm lenscap fits the front of the 100mm F3.5 Canon lenshood perfectly. Good tight fit, little chance of it being jettisoned.

Here it is. I am pleased:
