Ok - decided to go ahead and have a look at shimming my Canon 50/1.2 (focus issues)
I seem to remember a thread with "step by step" pictures of a canon lens diassembly here on RFF - but for the life of me, can't seem to find it anywhere now.
Does anybody happen to have it bookmarked ?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Meakin

I think the thread was on the 50mm 1.4 and it wasn't on RFF.
Basically all normal and wides canon lens I have opened are pertty easy to work on:
you need a spanner wrnech and screwdrivers.
close to the rear optics (careful here, it may be very close) you should see a slanted ring.
Open it with the wrench. the optical block should now separate from the helicoid mount.
usually, between both you will find the shim.
Good luck

Thanks Michael,
Sounds easy enough (and if it isn't - I won't hold it against you!)

Welcome...
well the disassembly is IMHO easy, accurately shimming the lens seems to me much more problematic...
if the shim is to be reduced, well, you just have to polish it a bit.
if you have to add hieight, what are you going to do?
Also, checking the focus itself seems a problem to me unless you have a DRF.
In any case, good luck...
