Hi all,

I just picked up a Canon S-50 lens hood for my 50mm f/1.4 LTM lens and have been wondering why the hood unscrews from the clamp on ring. Is there a reason for this? My only guess is that the intension is to screw in a filter between the two? If that is the case, does anyone know what thread size it is?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hmm I checked my S-50 and you're right.. Never noticed this. Filter tread seems to be the good ol' 55 mm (after trying out my considerable filter collection - I use 55 mm for most of my BL FD lenses).

The tread appears to be a bit different though than standard filter thread. It's not an exact fit..

The chrome base of the hood assembly is universal-type designed to fit on other lenses of the same diameter, only the black metal hood is designated for a particular lens.

Canon 50mm F:1.4 uses a 48mm filter thead. A canon T-50-2 sunshade also fits it perfectly. Its a lock ring clamp on type. The correct Hood is the S-50, I dont have one, T-50-2 is said to be for the 135 & 105mm F:3.5 series S lenses. Also the hood from the zoom TV lens V5x20 by Canon is 48mm metal perfect fit but unmarked as being made by canon.
