I took mom to do her Christmas shopping today and while I was waiting for her and sort of aimlessly wandering about the store, I looked over the digi cameras on offer.
Most were tiny P&S cameras with out a VF and so didn't interest me at all.
Saw the Canon SX20 sitting next to a digi-Rebel and at first thought it was a small DSLR. And picked it up to look over a bit closer. Amazingly it was powered so I could turn it on and toy with it a bit.
I am not thrilled with my current digi and will probably replace it early next year.
Aside from all the many "mode" and "scene" settings, it seems to have OK controls over the basics. And a VF; admittedly an EVF but, for me, still better than any LCD screen.
No RAW capture but I think I can live with that--I don't have that on my current digi and that lack is not on the list of annoyances about the camera I have now.
It's not an RF either but those are out of my budget by a couple orders of magnitude.
Ain't a digi Spotmatic equivalent either.
But it seems like it might be an better option for the same type of use I make of my current digital.
Relatively fast lens at f/2.8 at the wide end(26mm equivalent), though that gets much slower at the tele end: f/5.7(560!mm equivalent).
And it is wider at the wide end and very much longer at the tele end.
And it takes AA batteries.
Any one using or has used one?

I just started looking at the user manual from the Canon website and I am now convinced I want this camera:
In regular use, small amounts of smoke may be emitted from the flash.

:D
