Canon VI/L

The L3 doesn't have a meter so setting speeds is only to remind yourself what film you have loaded.

For being a good boy Santa got me a minty L3.
It doesn't have a book with it, or a lens yet, it came with CLA, a body cap and a std Canon case. The gold spot is very nice.

The thumb lever for winding also houses the ASA settings.

Here's my problem: if I want 800, 1600 or 3200, how do I set them? Red and green dots indicate..... what...?

The switch is for high and low light sensitivity. The needle swings to the same spot whatever the switch setting but one scale is for high (bright light) and one for low (dim light). The white shield is used to convert the meter to an incident meter. With the white shield on the meter, the reading should be taken from the subject position, with the meter pointing at the camera position. The meter then reads the light falling on the subject. Without the white shield, point the meter at the subject from the camera position. The meter then reads the light reflected off the subject. Both ways of reading can be fooled by the specific lighting conditions, but the incident metering position is usually more accurate.

How do the clip-on Canon meters work? What's the deal with the white and orange switch on the corner and the two scales on the dial? Do I use it with or without the opaque white shield on the front?
