Canonet 28 shutter works without battery?

Just to confirm, I believe the battery on the Canonets is just for metering purposes, so I assume the shutter is fully mechanicall. Can anyone confirm that the camera will fire without a battery?

The shutter will fire, but without a battery it only works on 1/30.
