I recently got a Canonet Ql-17, 40/1.7. It is not the G-III model, wanted to know the differences, though I understood there are not many.

Why can't you see the non G-III anywhere on ebay and likes? Is it considered rare?

Thanks, I know the site.

As far as my understanding goes I have the QL-17L model - with the battery check button. Are they considered to be rarer than the G-III models?

Sorry for the novice approach, I'm a Pentax film user, digital Canon. New to RF I try to learn as much as I can, and like the true nut I am, want to know my camera as best as I can.

Meanwile, in very general lines and within my limited knowledge, I would say that there is no issue here between a new Canonet QL and a QL GIII. Perhaps some button here or there, but for a serious optical quality evaluation of the differences, among all Canonets, beyond the shallow common and written knowledge - I don't know where to ask for.

Let's see if I succeded in hitching dmr.

Cheers,
Ruben

Canonet Manuals

Hello,

Kim Coxon, one of the moderators here, has a website with most of the manuals for the various Canonets.

Uh, that's me, but I'm far from the expert on these things. I know the GIII only and have never touched the other two. I would defer to Kim or Gman or several others who know more than I do.

I know there are three versions, the original QL17, the "New" one, and the GIII. From what I know, the GIII is the most common and the "New" model is the most rare. IIRC, both the "New" and the GIII are smaller than the original and use the 40mm 1.7 lens.
