Hi

I have a Canonet QL19, and most of the pictures i take with it gets overexposed in the upper middle of the picture(totaly burned out sometimes). I have been told that this could be a resuolt of a shutter leaf that simply is slower than its fellow shutter leaves. When i look at the shutter i can sea that two of the shutter blades have some kind of deposits on them.

Has anyone have this kinds of probmlem with a canonet? It is easy to disassemble the lens and clean the shutter?

Thanx!

Hi

It is the "old" version marked "canonet ql19"

I managed to remove the front lens element, and now have acess to the shutter this way. I will try to swabb the shutter blades with lighter fluid.

If you can remove the rear element it sometimes works better as you can get rid of the crud on the back as well. Try not to use too much fluid or you will flush more oil onto the blades. Little and often with a clean cotton bud each time works best for me.

Hi

I shot a roll of FP4 with the Canonet today. 5 of the 36 pictures had the same problem as before. The rest turned out OK. Is this consitant with the theory that sludge on one of the shutter blades slows it down and overexposes a part of the picture? if it was a lightleak, wouldnt all of the pictures be ruined?

Anyone knows?
