Hi All!

I picked up a great condition Canonet QL17 GIII today, but have run into an issue!

I decided to clean the battery contacts as there was some light matter on the sphere shaped contact on the backside... I used a q-tip & white vinegar but may have used too much pressure as that contact is now submerged or sunk in the hole 🙁 I can see that a battery would not make contact with it anymore.

How can this be fixed??? Any ideas please.. I'm so angry with myself!

thanks

I gave away my Canonet, but if I remember correctly that contact works as a spring. If you pushed it in too hard, you probably bent it. If you have a very small dentist's hook you might try to bend it back very carefully (more carefully than when you cleaned it 😉), otherwise you might just try and make a contact piece from a bit of aluminum foil, taking care to insert it in such a way that it doesn't short the battery contacts.

Check that the battery does not drain itself. There are two plasic nubs holding the contacts in place. If they broke, you can get a short of the contact against the camera's chassis. If that happened, you need to take off the bottom plate and make sure to insulate the contacts. I used electrical tape.
