Canonet QL17 with LR44 battery?

davidnewtonguitars--Why are you bothering to use expensive Wein cells in your Spotmatic? The meter circuit is a Wheatstone bridge which works with any voltage. When the bridge is balanced, the meter reads zero because no current is flowing through the meter. With a no current condition, it doesn't matter what the voltage is.

I think the problem is that we have to know, or be told, about the bridge circuit being used. It doesn't get mentioned in the cameras' manuals and a lot of people would not expect it in a camera designed around mercury batteries, with their stable voltage...

It would be nice if there was a list of cameras with bridge circuits but I've yet to see one.

Regards, David

The QL17 and the QL17 GIII have the same battery chamber.

The o-ring works very well on both.

Ahh, mine must be a differnt type of QL17, maybe they just did a short run. Here is a photo I just found online: https://goo.gl/images/fkNDjP
I will try gluing what I have to plastic or something.

I find it hard to believe that the OP has been referring to his Yashica Electro as a Canon QL17 this whole time...

OP seriously needs to post a photo of their battery compartment because this is all quite bizarre.

:)

Go to home depot and get a very short section of tubing with appropriate inside and outside diameters for the battery and the camera, and fill one end with a wad of aluminum foil.

Oh yeah, curved edges but mine is not a Yashica, I would post a photo if I knew how, seems to be no upload feature. Just found it- too limited for my tablet. Its the same sort of thing.

To the last poster I thought of that before then thought of the big wide straws in 7/11. Will get it working somehow.

Although the developers said my photos turned out well with the Sunny 16 rule, so its not essential. I thought developing was printing :D so told them just to scan the 2 rolls and I will see in 2 days. I have an XA2 on the way as I don't like the ergonomics of the Canon so may get rid of it anyway.

What is going on in here?!? Lol

Seriously though. If you actually have a canonet ql17 then you have the options of a Wein cell battery, getting one of the expensive adapters, using a zinc air hearing aid battery and using something to hold it in place, or getting another 1.5v battery and adjusting the asa a few stops to make the meter accurate. It does seem confusing at first but just pick one and you’ll be happy.

I am not a DIY type and not into the camera enough to buy an adapter, so it is up for sale and that is not because of the battery issue.

Problem solved. I got an Olympus XA2 instead which I instantly fell in love with, I have been able to do my preferred fast and personal street shooting. I tried the rangefinder thing and glad I did, but it is not for me. So I guess that makes me irrelevant on this forum, as I soon wont have a rangefinder. Laterz all, thanks for the advice ☺
