Canonet QL19 sticky aperture blades and lens removal

Hello everyone,

I believe ive come across the infamous sticky aperture blades so im trying to get into the front and back to wipe them with fluid.

After a little bit of searching i found the previously most recommended repair source (kyphoto) is not running so im a bit in the dark as to what im supposed to do. I followed this youtube video for the QL25 but its seemingly more and more different from my camera and ive hit a dead end, so was looking for advice on where to go or what to do now.

Ive included two pictures, one being where im up to now and the other is the stuff ive taken out. This is my first DIY so im not particularly sure what to expect - the front most element came out by itself and there are a few more seemingly attached to a metal housing thing as per the video, but there are no notches to put the lens spanner so thats where its help stops for me at the minute

Canonet QL19 sticky aperture blades and lens removal

I had some serious trouble taking apart a GIIIQL17 to get the rear front element off to clean the shutter blades and straighten the shutter speed selector
The existing lens removal notches were not large enough to fit a general purpose lens tool so I had to drill baby, drill and make my own holes.
I can see similar small notches at about 9 and 3 oclock in your photo. They require a special canon tool.
I have a recent thread somewhere here about this problem but I cant find it from the Tapatalk app.

Thanks for the reply but im afraid ive got some bad news 😀 Serves me right for getting too eager.

I had a closer look and saw those too but tried with the pointy end of the spanner and assumed it was something in production - after knowing its the actual way to undo it i think ill just drill it like others on the forum have posted about.

Ended up just wiping the rear aperture blades and got those working perfectly when pressing the shutter, and went on to set it to bulb mode and wiped the back of the front blades. Saw some decent progress and again carried on, but after a while the shutter speed dial is extremely stiff and in no way usable, and the blades still stick badly. Although, when using it in A mode it seems to work fine so im not really sure whats going on - I think probably too much naptha and it has got in to the lubricant? Im 99% sure the amounts werent copious but i guess the deed is done lol
