I have hundreds if not thousnds of slides taken when we lived in Carrib, Okinawa, Japan, etc. Along with the slides, probably more negatives. Is it possible to scan slides or negs on a standard flatbed scanner such as my Canon LIDE 90? A few years back I purchased a scanner which was supposed to scan slides, but I never had any luck with it. Are there scanners made specifically for slides or negs?

I don't think the LIDE 90 can scan negatives or slides. It can only scan documents and printed photos.
Yes there are scanners specifically for scanning negs.

Instead get the Epson V500 if your budget is tight ;-)

Some years ago I put hopes on LIDE models ending with letter "f", there are at least couple of them. LIDE models have CIS light source, diodes that is, instead of lamp as in regular full-sized models.
I'd be interested to see what has happened in this years, probably LIDE is worthy move for web-scans.
