Trying to determine if this is a lens problem or a camera problem? Recently got an OM-2n and a 24mm Zuiko lens. It's hard to tell with the tremendous DOF, but it doesn't appear the lens is focusing past 6 to 10 feet. At this point, the lens indicates infinity, but the split image view indicates I need to focus further.

How do I tell if this is a camera or a lens problem? My only other lens right now is a 16mm fisheye, so it's really hard to try to determine if the camera is the problem!

In the image thru the VF below, you can see that I need to continue to focus further to get the slide in focus (according to the split image), but the lens has already hit it's infinity stop.

Thoughts?

Get a decent fast lens, longer than 50mm and do your same test.
It may be the mirror is out of adjustment. It may also be your 24mm lens was put back together wrong after a cleaning.

The Infinity Stop in the lens may need to be re-adjusted.

some lenses have a wedge with stop screw to set it.

With Adapted lenses, sometimes an INF adjustment is needed with the adapter in place and with the camera it is used on.

I realize this is a Native OM lens on an OM body...
BUT, the suggestion is still valid.

Given the OP's evidence:
  1. VF indicates focus closer than inf.
  2. Film image indicated closer than inf.
  3. Lens focusing scale and inf stop disagree with #1 & #2

It seems that the body is likely OK and than the lens has been ill "repaired" at some point.

I don't know this lens, but many lenses had an infinity stop incorporated in the metal band that forms the focusing grip. It might simply be that loosening the set screws (hiding under the rubber grip, perhaps) that hold it to the actual focusing mechanism inside and readjusting its position will fix it. It could also be a case of the focusing heilicoid having been improperly reassembled.

Ok thanks for the replies. These were both KEH items, and they immediately issued a return authorization shipment for the lens... so I'll try that first.

I live 10 miles from KEH, and could stop by and sort it out in a matter of minutes, but unfortunately, they don't operate that way!
