Away from home for a couple more days and my ikon decides to go all wonky on me. It can't focus to infinity anymore (patch not aligned though lens is at infinity).

So my question is, can I still zone with it accurately or is everything off kilter now? Have about 2-3 more days to go and I'd hate to not do a little more street on tri x before I zip home. Thankfully I still have a rx100 for backup but I'd love some reassurance about the ikon!

How far off infinity is it? If it's not too bad, stop down a bit and focus as normal maybe?

Chances are the lens is fine, and a little bit of inaccuracy in the RF is no big deal so long as you're not trying to focus wide open. Go down to f/8 and use as normal.

How far short of infinity is the focus patch? If its only a small amount, unless you're using fast glass wide open and up close, you won't have any focus issues I'd expect. If the focus patch is way off, just set the distance using the distance scale on the lens and ignore the rangefinder.

The lens remains the same, so set the distance on the lens, and stop down. If you need more precision, just use the rangefinder and stop down - likely, will still be more accurate than zone focusing.

Managed to do a short test. An xpan focused to 1.5m anf my ikon focused to 2m on the same object. Guess I'll just zone as per normal at f8 at my usual sweet spot and trust my intuition!
