I got a 50 Summilux pre-asph today in the post. It's in great condition, but try as I might I cannot get it to mount on my M2. When I try and twist it onto the mount, the frameline lever on the body moves to the "90mm" setting (instead of the 50, where it should go...), and the lens doesn't click into place at all.

I've tried mounting it at infinity focus, at closest focus, and at several points inbetween, with no success. The body is mounting my 35 'cron perfectly, as well as my 35 Voigtlander. Is my body unsuitable for 50mm lenses for some reason? Or is the lens at fault?

Any opinions would be most welcome. Thanks.

Sounds like the bayonet on the lens is crooked. Check the "claws" on it for damage or even slightly bent claws. Try to find another Leica user and try it on his/her camera body.

Long ago my M2 would not mount a 90mm lens but would mount my up till then only lens a 35mm Summicron.
I loosened the screws on the m2 bayonet , rotated it slightly - a fraction of a mm, then tightened it up.
No problems mounting any lens after that.

Hey BJ,
I'm prob free on sunday if you want to meet up and try on my M6 🙂 thats odd if it turns but doesn't click in. I used to own a lux pre asph too, but sold it off since i prefer the small size of the cron 50. but i think i should have given it more time to gel with me.
