I wanted to replace my avatar image with a new one but, try as I may, I can't reduce it to the allowed MPs at 125p x 125p or even 125p x 100p (both within the stated tolerances). I am using CS6. When I start to save it at about a quality of 10 it shows the image at 35 kb, then when I reduce it even further even to quality 0 it still shows about 28 kb, where the maximum allowable is 10 kb.
I even tried black and whit monochrome with the same result.

I always have trouble with this. Are you trying the 'Save For Web' jpg output?

size it at 125, quality 6 and it should work.

back alley: As stated originally, I went down to 0 quality and still ended up with a file that was way too big. Thanks, anyway.
sepiareverb: Looks like save for web worked! Prior tries were at 72ppi, but for some reason save for web reduced file size much more than standard save. Thanks.

Your welcome. Save for web is a great file size reduction strategy.

but did you try to add the avatar or just look at the file size?
i find that sometimes the numbers don't seem to matter...
anyway...you have a new avatar now so congrats!

The app does not care what the file size is, I just tested a file that is 900x900 and 176 KB on disk and it is now a temporary avatar, looks fine.
Is this a recent change? I've had multiple images rejected which were far closer to the "required" size.

Yep, I actually tried and it was rejected (multiple times). Everything is fine now. I wonder what "save for web" does, exactly?

That's good to know. I haven't changed my avitar because of the pain the first time. I think I got 7 rejects before I got one it did not reject..
