Cant stop raving about the GSN's lens

I can believe how good the lens on the Yashica GSN is. It totaly blows all my canon L gear and whatever else I have sitting in my dry box away. I feel silly for still wanting a Leica...I mean how much better could it be?

After getting back my first black and whites from this camera im floored by how smooth the tones and background blur is. Im in love...

Great lens .... great camera. I bought an absolutely mint GSN for $70.00 Can't believe a camera this good sells for the prices they go for! Read what Karen Nakamura has to say about them...

I got a pretty mint one for 16 bucks and another one for 33 on evilbay but both of them had to be cleaned out pretty well (I used explosive chinese rice wine, dizolved the old foam seals in no time) and naturaly, the battery problem, but after some tinkering I got them working great. These cameras are such a bargain if you are willing to put a little work into them. Im so pleased with them.

ps. does your red over light blink on when you push your shutter button down a bit? Both of mine do that even if its not over and its annoying.

Only when I'm over exposing .... sometimes I forget how fast the lens is on these little gems! 🙂

great pics. I agree, I ran my GSn into the ground for a year and was always happy with the results.

These are lovely pictures and show your point about value for money brilliantly.

I wanted to respond to your point about the Leica being better - yup, it is. I think the question that sometimes goes round my mind is the quality to money ratio. I paid 8 GBP for my GSN and I love it for all the same reasons you do. I paid 1000 GBP for my M6 and 50mm Summicron and felt that was a good deal. The M6 is obviously a better camera but is it more than 100 times better? I don't know the answer to this and I like and use both cameras a lot.

What I do know is if I want to go shooting and be certain of totally dependable, consistenr great quality results than the GSN will come through everytime. As a thoroughbred, the Leica will give more but expect me to work harder to get the very best from it. Also, I am fairly certain that if I live to be 120 I will still be able to use the Leica. Not so sure about the GSN.

I too have to chime in. The Yashinon DX lens is simply from outer space. A thread popped up not too long ago asking what the best 40mm lens was for a rangefinder? Well, I know this is a 45mm, but it's a wide 45, and this lens gets my vote hands down. It is simply one of the best lenses I’ve ever used… SLR or Rangefinder. Definitely my favorite lens. The punch, the color, the sharpness, and it simply performs WIDE open ALL the way to F16 gorgeously! I even love the way this lens flares, that misty dreamlike flare, as opposed to reflective rings of the Rokkor/Leitz 40s. The GSN is the camera that sucked me back into rangefinders… and the priority metering is bizarrely accurate… it just spits out perfect exposures even when things get tricky lightwise! I guess you can tell I fancy the GSN… but I’m not alone. What can I say? Get one while they cost next to nothing! And they do!

I think it's normal. I've got multiple Yashica's that do that. One that has even been serviced does it. Not every time for any of them and they only stay on when they should but I do believe it's normal.

An amazing camera - so long as it is on a tripod if the light is low- you can shoot almost anything! I'm sure I will wear mine out.
