I'm super happy. I am born in Leipzig and I was always sad when I came by there seeing that this beautiful house decaying away even without knowing the history of it. I came by there pretty often to since it was on my way to downtown.

FWIW, the streamline-style house where Capa lived in Paris in the 1930s, 37 rue Froidevaux in the 14th district, is still there (see Google streetview capture below), and hasn't changed much (fully worth a visit).

I am just back from the scheduled (terrific) one week business trip to Berlin which included a lone but excellent day in Leipzig. Fortunately I could then grab a tramway (the new Capastr. and Bowmanstr. are located in a suburb quite far away from the historical center of Leipzig) and go to visit the so-called "Capa Haus" during lunch time why my colleagues were at the restaurant. Funny thing is that most of the intellectuals of Leipzig didn't seem to know where the place was, while I was precisely told where to go by a friendly Wurst und Kaffee seller of Lindenauer Markt. When my tramway first passed by, it was raining so much that I couldn't see anything so I went too far away to the West for several tramway stops. Fortunately when I could arrive by the house eventually, it stopped raining for almost an hour.

I then had an expresso at the new and very chic "Café Eigler" and visited the small yet very comprehensive exhibition which takes place on the first floor of the rejuvenated house.

A place which is definitely worth the visit if you're a Capa nut. That was quite moving to be there.

The chair on display is the one which is on Capa's iconic photo, courtesy of the inhabitant of the flat back then, Robert Petzold.
