I've read on several forums that the beta version is supposedly amazing, if that's the case I'll be the first in line to pick up the software and finally getting rid of SilkyPix and if I enjoy it enough I might stop using lightroom. I'm using RPP right now to develop my RAWs and its so much better than LR/ARC which basically takes an amazing file and rips it to shreds.

Depends on what the sw engineers figured out on their own.. Outside of any info from Fuji.

It's a standalone. I got a free copy of an earlier version when Phase One bought Media Pro from Microsoft (from iView). It was pretty good and pretty simple to use but I have a large mental and financial investment in Photoshop plugins, which, naturally, don't work with Capture One.

"Expensive" is an understatement. 🙁 I switched to it from Apple's 'Aperture' and Capture One is weird to use from my point of view. The bottom line, though, is that it makes my files look great, with more detail retrieval than Aperture. Its noise reduction has improved from version 6.

If $300 is all it takes to finally get the most out of the X-trans sensor, then sign me up.
I think its funny when it comes to camera investments, I hate spending cash on software but wouldn't think twice about spending $300 on a bag or accessories.
Of course these accessories would do very little to help, but seems more useful due to their tangibility.
But I've just been so frustrated with LR's RAF conversion that I'd pretty much throw down whatever I had to do get better results.
For lots of photos LR is fine, but I know I'll end up re-editing a lot of work through C1 due to the detail that'll be gained.
I've only printed a few files from the XP-1, but I know any "difficult" files printed at 17x22" will display LR's faults.
I usually print around that size for gallery work, if not larger.
It seems like CaptureOne has finally provided the link many of us have been waiting for.
Now all I need is the 23mm! As an early adopter of the X-series cameras, it's impressive to see how many issues have been solved through firmware upgrades and so on.
I'll be very happy to stop shooting RAW+jpg.

I've been testing the C1 beta version with Fuji-X support but don't see too much difference with LR4.3 until now. But C1 does seem to sharpen better. Have to do more testing though.

My first quick conversions with the beta are very promising, especially considering that I'm totally new to C1P.

The first two are of technically demanding images of subects with extreme brightness ranges which did not convert well with LR. Click on the pictures to get to 100% JPEGs. I'm particularly impressed by the superb handling of tonal gradation in the highlights.

The third picture really shows that C1P-devloped images can handle sharpening, and it also shows that Phase One's engineers seem to have largely solved the chroma smearing issues that were present in other RAW developers, especially LR/ACR. This suggests that the smearing was, as I'd surmised, largely an algorithmic (de-mosaicing) problem and not an intrinsic problem with the sensor's color geometry.

I agree w/your assessment. (A light version of) C1 was also the raw processor that came w/the Leica M8, & I continued to use it in the full version w/the M9. Will be nice to be able to use it w/X-Pro1 files.

Capture One was designed (by the original designers of Photoshop) for Phase One. I Think Phase One owns Capture One. The early (and I think current) Phase One backs require Capture One for operation. The backs come with a copy and prepaid updates.

Capture One has branched out on to other camera platforms. It's rich in tools to control a raw image. The tool box is smaller than the one in Photoshop but bigger than the one in Lightroom. My opinion. Most of the people I know who use Capture One use PS for most serious Post work. I prefer the simplicity of LR for most things. If you use a Phase back, Capture One is your primary tool for running the camera tethered.

It's a professional product and assumes a bit of knowledge.

All 3 programs were coded by the same designers.

Since LR is centric to my entire production process, I was wondering if converting the RAFs to tiffs (no or minimal adjustments) and the importing to LR is a viable strategy.

I couldn't live with Capture One alone. But might with C1 + LR if I didn't use the stitch tool and other graphics stuff in CS#

Does c1 support batch raw processing? Does it support custom profiles? Since I am an aperture user, I am thinking about a workflow which sends the raw file thru c1 as a batch process w/ custom profile and then import to aperture. Would that work?
