I wasn't sure where to ask this so I'll try here.
This photo was taken with an M mount Ricoh GXR. I've not had a problem with it in the past. I bought a Maxell SD card at the airport and formatted it in camera. It wasn't long before I started getting messages about numbering issues or something, and 4 files couldn't be retrieved from the card. This image shows up normally on the screen on the back of the camera but as you can see, the DNG is faulty. Is it likely that this is an issue with this card rather than the camera; incompatible or formatting error?
Is it likely that some software could retrieve/repair the damaged files?

This is a DNG that came off the card with its associated JPEG. Information is present at the bottom of the file on the JPEG

Since the problem started with a new card, try another one of another brand. They're cheap these days.

Yes I guess what is done is done.

Is it likely that some software could retrieve/repair the damaged files?

Possibly possible, Pete. :)
There is a small program called SDFormatter that does a very thorough error correcting format. It's suggested as the first stop for a new card, and used periodically, say a few times a year to straighten out catalog errors, etc.

It's from the SD Association, with both Windows and Mac versions. See

I don't know that this can or will fix your card problem, but possibly... Other software, that sometimes comes on a new SD card, may recover files.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I use SD Formatter but unfortunately didn't have my laptop with me to perform this step prior to using the card.

Thanks for this. It's worth a shot.
(Although I wonder if in my frustration a couple of nights ago I just reformatted the card losing everything).

Even if you have formatted it Stellar Pheonix will usually retrieve everything, it just takes longer.
