Hey all. Longshot here, but does anyone know the procedure for lubricating the old, mechanical-linkage AF lenses from Nikon?
I got an excellent deal on a beat up 300mm f/4 AF-D prime from a local PJ's kit. Optically, the lens is exactly what I need and it focuses functionally quite well on my D3S and D700.
It's very, very noisy, however. I don't mean your typical AF-motor noise. The gears sound, well.. dry. The 300 has a very long AF linkage, and I'm assuming there are some bearing surfaces in there in addition to the gears that likely need some greasing. Has anyone ever re-lubed an AF/AF-D lens before? What kind of grease should I be using?
