Hello guys,

I was wondering if someone will be able to help me out regarding this lens. I suppose what I'd really be interested to know is whether this is a genuine CZJ wartime lens? I have uploaded some photos I took whilst the lens is still dismantled (I'm in the process of tidying it up a little). I couldn't exactly find any concrete information about this particular LTM lens, so perhaps someone with more knowledge could help me out identifying its origin.

That is a true wartime Sonnar indeed. The rear collar of the optical block has the serial number (minus the first digit) stamped into it, the coating is correct (Jupiter lenses are much more blueish/purplish) and as far as I can tell, the barrel also is correct with the narrower red triangle and a small 'm' for meters.

268 puts it in early wartime production, IIRC...

Make sure you start the helicoid on the right thread (marked them, I hope!?) or you will not achieve correct focus and get very funky results...😉

There's an extensive thread on wartime Sonnars in the Leica LTM forum: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74907

Have fun!

Thanks for the quick reply, glad to hear its a real CZJ. I didn't dismantle the helicoid as it was quite alright, and yeah I do know the pain of aligning helicoids up. It is a pity that the glass is in less then good condition with lots of coating damage, but it will probably not matter much in the real world.

I add that the number on the rangefinder barrel (1387) denotes an original rangefinder Zeiss lens. I have too such a number on several of my RF Zeiss lenses.

Congrats, even if the optics are not so good...
