A new photo project themed on 'Carnival'?
Tuesday 5 February 2008.
In Rio there will be big parades.
Here women will dress as princesses, witches, or hookers. (Since Diana's time pretty much the same) And men will be Superman or a roman soldier. (Or non-photogenic wearing their wife's dress.)
Kids in school will dress as fictional characters such as Sleeping Beauty or Spiderman and will parade around the city often with a parent dressed-alike.
A woman I know will be a Transformer, even though I recommended a Lara Croft costume.
Photo opps hundred percent.
Anybody interested in joining in a project here in a little over two weeks?

In Britain it won't be Carnival, it will be Pancake Day.
In many places it will be just another Tuesday.
Any takers to document how the day is spent around the world?

Here in the South of the Netherlands it called "Carnaval", 4 days of dressing up and having fun...followed by a massive hangover on Wednesday
I will be wearing one of my many living-history uniforms (probably my WW1 US Air Service one) and toting around a small point&shot camera (probably a panasonic lumix). Perhaps take one of my vintage Kodaks to one of the parades....

I bought my first digital camera at the start of Carnival back in 2003. That was my start of the photography hobby
Last year I didn't take so many pictures though.
I am sure some of the German photographers on this forum are willing to participate in this project as well. Carnival is a big thing in Germany if the programs on TV are anything to go by.

I'm hoping for the Italian people to come onboard too.
I'd also like to see the British people showing us the pancake day silliness, either cooking pancakes at home or racing along the street with them.

Good idea, and a unique opportunity to be disguised as an amateur photographer. I'll try to capture some more images from Portugal, using two cameras for black & white and for colour. The cameras must be able to resist water, flour, confetti and whatever will be thrown on me. FED-5 and Zorki-6 will do the job, I guess.
Cheers

Great to have you on board.
Do your moorish type dancers go for this? I hope so.

It is an interesting and funny project!
Here in Milano area (NW Italy), we will celebrate Carnival with a parade on February 9: I will attend to it playing with the local windband, and of course I will have a camera with me (I have not yet decided: Fed3b, Kiev 4,Zeiss Ikon Contaflex, Minolta Dimage Z10?). I will be pleased to show you some pictures.

I'm sure that your photos will be interesting, as they always are.
And I hope that robert blu and nico from your region join in too.
Who else, anywhere in the world?

Having just moved to Colorado a month ago, I don't really know what to expect but I saw that there is going to be a parade in the town of Manitou Springs. It's a real crazy, artsie town so it should generate some interesting photos. I guess we'll find out.
Count me in. Great idea!

Maybe if I manage I can take some carnival pictures in the Rhineland here. I've already started putting together a Vietnam-era photojournalist costume so I can walk around with three cameras and take pictures of everybody at liberty.

In Detroit, it is Paczki Day.

Everybody eats Polish jelly donuts. No parade. Sticky fingers, which make it hard to operate the shutter and focus anyway. Too cold for Carnivale!

This evening I went out with some friends but it wasn't worthy of spending any film.
I only took 4 pictures with my p&s Canon.
I do have my Leica lined up with a 90mm f/4 Elmar for the parade tomorrow.
