Any recommendations for appropriate Bessa camera bags? (In particular, R models... I have an R3A.)

I'm not too keen on those Luigi cases. I'm looking for something functional: protective, light, and with enough storage space to house not only the camera with a lens attached, but perhaps an additional lens.

Whatcha got?

I second the Domke 5xb. For a two or three lens kit, it's exactly the right size and protective. The velcro flap on the front can seem strange at first and a bit noisy but turns out to be pretty practical and can be folded back against the body when you're fishing in the bag for film, a lens change, etc.

I'll third that, I got mine yesterday and it's the perfect size for my bessa and my leica. Although I'm not all that impressed with the build quality compared with the Billinghams I own but that's a snob thing on my account. I'm already liking the small size of 5xb, I have removed the garish Domke tag though to make it less CHECK ME OUT

Try this: Bag
Made for a rangefinder.

😀

I like my Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home. It will hold up to three rangefinders with lenses, but it usually holds two cameras with lenses plus an extra lens for me.

Once you stuff the front pocket with film, it starts to get a little bulky, so I'm looking for a one camera bag with quick access for when i want to travel light. The padding is great though. I feel my cameras are very secure in there.

Sometimes when I need to carry more than my cameras, I put it in my Timbuk2 messanger bag and it leaves room for some books or what not.

I guess I have to join the chorus - Domke F-5XB. I have one and it is perfect for my R, L, 50 Nokton, and 25mm plus any necessary film and filters. It is a great walkaround bag and is fairly unobtrusive.

For my daily go-to-work bag, I use the Domke F-802 (Reporter's Satchel), which is much like the satchel shown in Akiva's photo. (In fact, I think that might be an 802, but the 802 and 803 are very similar.) It holds all necessary papers, folders, and still has room for my Bessa R with attached lens, an extra lens, and film. Just a good commuter's bag...

Good luck! Bag shopping can be lots of fun, yet incredibly frustrating at times! 🙂

I have a Crumpler Bens Pizza (Medium).

The main compartment has a divider which allows for my R2a (same size as your R3a) with trigger winder and 40/1.4+hood to sit on one side and a J-9 to sit in the other with a lens cleaning kit.

The front pocket has a mesh inner pocket in which a spare pair of SR44s live and a Peli film case with six rolls of film.

It's exactly the right size, you couldn't get any smaller, and very nicely padded.

This bag is now discontinued so you may be able to get it cheap.

That's what I did:

Got myself a new Finnish army gas-mask bag. (9$ aprox)
Emptied it.
Bought closed-cell padding (4$)
Bought half meter of nice soft cloth (2$)
Bought diferent sizes of velcro (10$)
Cut the cloth and sew together.

The result:
one of the most discreet, rugged (army fabric), customizable, camera bag you can use for a day outing.
Mine holds a bessaR, flash, film, 2 lenses.

ps: i am no expert in sewing. my girlfriend happens to own a sewing machine, she is the master, (though I did the job) .😀
