Vince--very nice!
Thanks for keeping us posted.
What engine does your Checker have? I think I read somewhere they used GM engines, and I could be very wrong...
Paul
Yes, they did use GM engines extensively, in addition to Continental engines earlier, and even had Perkins Diesels and propane. Mine has a GM 229 V6 (known as an 'odd fire'), which is basically a 305 with two cylinders removed. I think it was introduced due to the times (late '70s-early '80s) and an attempt for more fuel efficiency. The result is twofold: yes, you do get better gas mileage (I'm getting about 20mpg in the Checker), but in a car that weighs over 4000 lbs, you get much less power.
This car has definitely had its share of issues, and in retrospect I probably shouldn't have bought it. But, it is what it is, and once you start traveling so far down the restoration road, it's hard to turn back or stop. Hopefully all the effort and $$$ will have been worth it!

Vince--thanks for the info!
Well--while they are doing the upholstery--just have 'em put in a big block crate engine.
They are around 550HP--which should be enough--and there's PLENTY of room in the Checker engine compartment!
Thanks again...

1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce, taken on a hillside in Germany in 1966 with my first 35, a Petri 2.8 Color Corrected Super. The slide was probably Ektachrome, which had deteriorated quite a bit, contrast and color-wise, before I scanned it about ten years ago.
I still have a Petri 2.8 CCS (not the same one); I wish I still had the car.

If you fall on your car it'll be cushioned.
What's not smart about that?

Shades of my youth....
Shades of my youth....
When I was 19 yrs old, going to community college, a fellow two doors down from my Uncle had a new Sunbeam Tiger, same color and equipped like this... 1962 as I recall.
He replaced it with a new Corvette in 63-64.
He still lived with his parents at about 30 years old. The tradeoff for sporting wheels like this.
At the time, I had a chevy just like the one next to the Sunbeam Tiger. (did not live with parents, either)
