Which would be a lump of 6 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches and weighs the same as a brick....
I just want something easier to open than a Domke wrap for when I want to throw the camera into a backpack. As long as it doesn't break the backpack ;-)
Nothing overly padded or bulky.

Frank, my Medalist I is a pretty good fit in a neoprene "Zing" camera case. They come in different sizes; I think my case was intended for a typical 35mm SLR and 50mm lens. It's a little awkward to take on/off; you can't use the camera with the case even partly open, but it crunches up to pocket-size.
