I just bought a black Ikon yesterday and am looking for a case to hold the camera with a small lens mounted plus two additional small lenses and a few rolls of film. The three lenses are a CV 35/1.4, ZM 50/2, and Elmar-C 90/4.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Congratulations on the first rate new camera.... If I were you, I'd also make some room for a nice 28mm... The type of bag which works well for me with a small kit is the Lowepro Stealth Reporter bag - there is a slit at the top, so you can change the lenses without needing to open the bag, risking that you lose something in the process.

After the U.S. gave up on Vietnam the military surplus stores were selling oliver drab canvas shoulder bags for about three to five dollars apiece. These were very much like the "Leica Classic" bag, three compartments for lenses and a main compartment that would hold a camera and a bunch iof film. I wish I'd bought some spares....LOL but I keep wondering if we'll soon be ramping down our insane wars and the market will get flooded with beige or "desert camo" canvas shoulder bags in the ten to fifteen dollar range (inflation...LOL). Beige would be better at keeping the interior cool in the Florida sunshine anyway. In the meantime I've picked up several assorted size "camera" bags at yard sales for a couple of bucks apiece, and I use whichever seems the right size for the day's jaunt.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Stealth Reporter D100 AW looks good. I was looking at the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home and the Domke F-5XB as well, but I don't want to hear velcro every time I take the camera out.

I keep my ZM with a lens on the body and two other ZM lenses in the Naneu Pro bag, which is discussed in detail here: Naneu Pro "Military Ops" Lima

It's a little bigger than the Domke FXB, but it provides a lot more cushioning IMHO. It's very well built and the modular inserts included are nice. Very pleased with it.

I'll second the Domke F-5XB - it's what I use for the P and three lenses (plus film). Very comfortable, very small.

I will say tho, I usually have the camera around my neck, or in my hand, so the film takes that spot most of the time.

Thanks to suggestions in a thread from last week I have ordered a Domke F-5XB, should be in my hands in a week or two.

Hi Amin,

If you don't need anything terribly pretty that should fit just fine in one of the small lowepro rezo's - front compartment for film and the rain cover built in is nice to have. I fit a kit very comparable in size to what you are talking about in a rezo 160 without any issues.

I just got the Bare Bones Bag and have only good things to say about it. You can read my mini review and link to the website here. Bag designed by phtographer Stephen Schaub.

i use all domkes, i like them a lot!

i have used the 5xb for my zi plus lenses, and use the f6 for the full meal deal.
he 5xa for one camera with lens, the 804 for a day bag and now the 803 for a smaller day bag.

can't get enuf of these domkes...

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. I ended up getting two bags - a Tamrac Adventure Messenger 3 and a Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home. The Tamrac is nice for getting the whole kit in the smallest possible bag, whereas the Crumpler has room for more (can take a compact digital camera or an SLR + lens along with the RF kit) as well as more padding and a less camera bag-ish look. The 5 Million Dollar home may have been large enough, but it really looked like a purse 🙂.

I tried some of the Domke bags out in the store (Service Photo in Baltimore had a nice selection of bags), and I could see the appeal, but in the end I chose more padding over lighter and better fitting. I surprised myself by getting a bag with tremendous patches of velcro (Crumpler), but they do give a sense of security as a tradeoff for the noise.

regarding the 5xb

regarding the 5xb

I need to get a new bag myself and I have the same problem, which bag to buy.
Will the Domke F-5XB carry my stuff:
ZI + three lenses + flash (Metz 32 Z1)?
I'll be needing also space for films and some writing materials.

Eventually I got me a Domke F-803

Eventually I got me a Domke F-803

Excellent.
The bag came with one mini insert which divides the interior to three compartments.
I added some padding of my own (from an old LowePro bag I have) to the bottom and the sides of the bag, just to be on the safe side 🙂
I have my ZI with 28mm attached (including the hood) in right compartment.
50mm and 90mm lenses in the middle and in the left one I stash up to 6 rolls of film.
The bag also has two surprisingly large front pockets which are closed with a stiff velcro.
In one I store my wallet and keys and in the other I put either the flash unit or a a set of filters.

the 803 is by far my favorite bag. Deep enough to fit the 135 f/4.5 hektor too... My travel kit for years, all in that bag, was Contax G2, 21, 35(or 45), 90, all w/ hoods, TLA200 flash...and room enough for 10days worth of film, sunglasses, wallet/keys/phone, notebook/sketchbook, pens, and the invaluable maps and guidebook. (if I got rid of the sunglasses I could bring another body...or lots more film!)
