I don't think so, or if it does it's a very very tight fit due to the extra thicknes of the rear screen. I purchased an Epson case from http://www.unicircuits.com/shop/ . However the front snout is too small to take anything other than the 40mm Nokton - and that's without a hood. (Maybe one of the pancake lenses would fit, I haven't tried.) Also, the camera half of the case doesn't offer a lot of protection for the top back and top sides. However I do find using the bottom half better than nothing.

It would seem the best option is to purchase one of Luigi's custom cases for the RD-1.

I can second Bob. The R-D1 is thicker than the R3a and does not fit into that camera case. Luigi Crescencis R-D1 cases are indeed the most recommendable option. The japanese case that Bob mentions costs almost as much as Luigis - but has less style.

i like luigi 's case but i can not get a response from him, even when he does just says my emiail is wokring and the main subject which is cases goes unanswerd
 
Much as I rate Luigi, I think Epson's own case is pretty good - and you get the full case, for the price of a half-case. Mine was around £80 sterling. I think it provides good protection.

Luigi's half case is 180 Euro, around $220. THe Epson full case is around $140, from Dirk Rosler. And airmail from Japan costs less than airmail from Italy.

I love Luigi's work, but in this instance think a full case is far handier, for when the camera's knocking around in a glove compartment or suitcase. I think the Epson case is the one to have even if it doesn't look or smell quite as nice.

paul, how is the case "in half case mode" what can you see or do with the back switched and menu items using the original epson case
 
The case is scooped away in a big U shape at the back; the cutout includes screen and all the buttons, so it's easy to access, although not particularly rigid - two press studs on the right unclip to reveal the SD slot. You can unfold the screen and flip it over with the half case attached. PM me with your direct email and I'll email a couple of crappy digi shots of it, if that helps.

If both half cases were the same price, I would undoubtedly buy Luigi's. But considering you can get a full case for considerably less, the Epson case is damn good for the price.
 
I own a Luigi's case; it came w/ my 2nd hand r-d1. It doesn't have any cutouts for the battery and SD door access, which is inconvenient; you have to take the camera out everytime.

I do like the quality though. It is made from quality leather w/ red velvet inside. Very sturdy but soft.

I have an artisan & artist 'Collector's Case' which is made for Leica bodies, and the R-D1 fits perfectly inside with lens attached. It is well-made. I especially like the velcro pouch for store batteries or what nots. The inside is soft but w/ thick layer of cushion. It has a handle strap at the top of the case. Not very big in size. I zip it up and put it inside my messenger bag, pretty ease access.

i found that an old mamyia eveready case i stil had only needed minor changing (the hole for the fixing screw was off several millimeters).
it is sooooo ugly, but it serves its purpose.

I just sent Mehrdad these photos. Just in case (hah) anyone's pondering whether to buy one, they show how the Epson looks in half case mode. You can see how the case looks, complete, on the Megaperls site.
