Hey Peter, I can completely understand your regret.
Although not an everyday lens in my opinion, the Summarit 50/1.5 really is a lens, everybody should have.
There is a very reasonably priced sample just right now in the classifieds btw - I almost feel tempted, to buy it as a second Summarit for this price ;-)

Hey Warren, please see, that I am not the only one, posting here Summarit 50/1.5 photos!
Above photos for example are made by BB, who scored a very beautiful sample and shoots color.
If this isn't already done, why not translating this thread into a 5cm ƒ1.5 Summarit thread entirely ;-) ?

Rod here on the forum sold me a Leitz Summarit 5cm ƒ1.5 in need of a CLA (it was a pleasure, to deal with him).
Those are very striking images. I had no idea that this old lens produced that kind of swirly bokeh.
And sharp! Despite the background blur, you can clearly see what looks like a huge hair coming out of this guy's nose!

Haha - it is actually not a huge hair, but part of the smoke leaving through his nose ;-)
The reason, why this shot is so sharp and rather contrasty is, that I stopped down a bit and there was no serious backlight, which the Summarit is very sensitive, even with the most beautiful of all lens hoods, the XOONS.
From all Leica lenses, I tried so far, the Summarit produces the most crazy swirl, right followed by the milder, but still apparent swirl of the Summitar.

Patrick, there is a very, very cheap one now in the classifieds together with a M2 - don't know the seller, but the lens surely looks tempting ;-)

I like the glow on yours, mind doesn't glow that much, don't tell me it's just in my mind, I swear I can see the difference...

This could very well just be in exposure and post processing (overexpose half a stop and don't counteract in PP = glow).

Many say they have dismantled the summarit but I cannot find clear instructions - anywhere - and they would be much appreciated - with pictures of tools required and how the different sections are dismantled.
The only instructions I have seen - by 'Brian' - only results in the focus and optics mount being separated (which I did) not in any separation of the optical elements themselves.. Particularly useful would be how to remove the front element -can that be unscrewed simply alone after removing the single visible screw by the edge of the front?
Any response by anyone who has done this would be useful. Also the precise name of the greases required to lubricate the focus and aperture turning parts.
