CENSORED!!!!! Who deleted the link in my signature ?

bbcode is a markup language (html is a markup language, too, in that it also uses "tags" to format text) that is used by vBulletin, the software that powers RFF. So instead of using the classic html tags of <a href="URL">link</a> to produce a link, you use, I think, brackets and different tag names.

Basically, someone thought their sig got "censored" when in fact it was merely written in the wrong code and is not being displayed correctly. It needs to be written in bbcode, and it is instead written in html.

That's the root. The fuss involves accusations of censorship by the mods, stubbornnes and refusal to acknowledge error of ways by thread originator, and general insults here and there.

I hear you on that. I usually avoid long threads because of my tendency to read only the last few posts.

I actually ignored this thread until I saw that it had gotten long. eventually got lured in by the prospect of flame wars, anger, and rudeness. Brings back the old IRC and Usenet days. I miss my killfile.

That does not speak of good things for me. :)

Magnus has been left to his own devices, and this thread has gone on WAY too long when the first or second page answers all the problems.

Magnus needs to replace the html with bbcode, which means {url}blah{/url} NOT <a href=""></a>

Magnus also needs to apologise to the mod's publicly for the insulting way things were phrased.

The rest of us have been takin the p*ss royally because we can see the joke?

Of course you're right, Frank... but I have higher and mighter issues to ponder. ;) In the thought that maybe "he-who-shall-not-be-named' has re-documented this fascinating thread in the coprolitic-site-that-shall-not-be-mentioned", I noticed that aforesaid site appears to be unreachable (404). Hmm.
 
Do you mean the possibility of censorship (which has been proven false), or the public insults? Generally I agree with the "taking things too seriously" idea, but in this case I don't know what you mean.

Magnus has a choice to make about this: he can apologize for making allegations of censorship (proven false) and insulting the moderators, or not. I've dug my self into a hole before and apologized. I think it's the honourable thing to do.

One COULD think the worst if Magnus does not respond: that he lacks the good character to do so. I'm hoping he will reply, accepting responsibility for his error and apologize publically for making those public nasty statements.

What you demand of others, you have to be willing to give yourself.

yes I believe it is .... and sorry not to be online in the RFF for every waking minute, I do have other things to do .....

My link was placed, my link worked, my link was gone and being an overal "anti" link I presumed the worse which at the time really pee'd me off. It now appears I was wrong, jumped to hastily into conclusions and hence my response .....

To all that have gone to the trouble off finding the cause, I am sorry, to all others which felt unjustibly acused, I am sorry too. To all others.... I am sorry as well....

generally speaking, I am sorry, I will think twice next time before making unjust accusations .... one is never to old to learn and I believe I have.

I have lenses to test and daughters to bring back from the daycare center. There is no snow in Pensacola, but tonight it will be cold [below 0 C].

i dislike the feeling i was experiencing as i can be a too proud person at times and being called 'smaller' was particular offensive to me.
i can understand your 'pee'd off' feeling as well.
