ABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures of Senators, Big Donors
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Conventions/story?id=5668622&page=1
Seems like the democrats don't like their pictures taken on a public street if they can't control it.

Does this surprise you? Or anyone? Democrats preach unity, diversity, openness and all that crap but do not practice it... They are the worst of the worst stifles of free speech and freedom of the press, not that republicans are much better but I doubt a photog would get arrested at an RNC convention for taking photos... But I reckon we'll find out soon enough.

Not to represent the cops, but what else is going on? The question is, why?

Um, this appears to have been the police harassing a citizen who had not broken the law, not the Democratic Party.
He was not within the convention but on a public sidewalk.

I guess your right, the policeman was just passing by and arrested a major network reporter for taking pictures of the DNC donors, at the request of the hotel who was being rented by the DNC. I'm sure the cop was just having a bad day.

We've seen this sort of police harassment before at conventions, certainly most of those I've seen these last 50 years. IIRC at the NY convention the police unlawfully arrested busloads of protesters just to release them latter without charges, too late for them to exercise their rights in any meaningful way.
Bad day or no, when an officer applies for and receives training, a gun and special protections and authorities under the law and then uses the law to harass and interfere with the civil rights of citizens on the behalf of politicians or other people of influence, he, or she, has broken covenant with the people and is as bent as the cop who takes a bribe, beats a suspect or sells drugs stolen from dealers.
Too many people are more than ready to excuse police these behaviors but that only makes it harder for good cops to do the job.

I am not familiar at all with these convents in the US but why would people attending such a convent being afraid being photographed (or filmed on video) by a news team ?
Is it about big money donations that should be kept undiscovered ?

Maddoc, our politicians have giving themselves several breaks in the bribe department.
One of them allows big money to throw these hugely expensive parties at the conventions for the benefit of the politicians and those lobbyist who want unusual access to lawmakers. This sort of influence peddling is common and the people who attend don't want to be caught out in the 'public eye'.
Cheers

Yes , Fox News. None of us Republicans would be caught dead watching Mickey Mouse News...
I wish people would start looking for alternative sources of news other than these mega-corporation entities such as fox (and even cnn). Fair and balanced news my ass. (not just and issue with fox news mind you... )

I didn't mean this thread to be about democrat vs republican. And it's more than a photographer being hassled. It's obviously the reporter, who works for a big name, well known news corporation, was trying to do a story on donors to a political party. Unlike Irag, in the US we do, or did, have the first amendment.

I see, the - unfortunately common - combination of political power and big money with the aim to make more money and get more power ... Understandable that these guys don't want to be caught out in the "public eye", the common citizen and tax payer might be displeased ...

Legacy media is suffering. They won't die, but their influence (and money) are fading.
So, people ARE looking for alternative sources, and finding them.

As Maddoc (I believe) was pointing out, nothing illegal there, just unseemly.

We are looking for alternative news sources and most of us have settled on various BLOGS but they are just as unfair and unbalanced as you think FOX is. Do you consider ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC as fair and balanced news sources? If so, I would have to say, "Fair and Balanced news my ass." (you named no other network than Fox so don't even go there). MSNBC with weirdo hyperflake Olberman is like fair and balanced?

Yep, democrats want to make that a thing of the past (right to free speech). Look no further than their resurrecting of the stupidly purposely misleading misnamed so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

The best camera is one that still works!
The thing I find disturbing watching the video is what a bunch of thugs the cops come across as and I'm not just pointing the finger at the US here. The days of a police force are numbered as far as I'm concerned and the operative word is 'force!' I know they have to deal with a lot of unpleasant situations and individuals on a daily basis but this footage repulsed me!

Realistically what is fair and balanced is entirely subjective and depend solely on the political views of the listener. Some people may think CNN is too left and some may say they are too far right; chances are a liberal may feel it is the latter and a conservative may feel it is the former. The media outlets, traditional or otherwise have taken a position to cater to their followers and not about to be objectively fair and balanced by any means.

It would help if you quoted the post you are commenting on. I cannot follow your input, as much as I would like to.
