Center-weighted and semi-spot metering

i have read ( within quite a few threads ) that the M7 has semi-spot metering while
the ZI has center weighted metering.

I would appreciate what is meant by semi-spot and how exactly one goes about
using this fro meter readings, as opposed to my nikon spot metering. I am
primarily concerned with bw imaging.

what other Ls have this semi-spot vs the center weighted metering.

I suspect the marketing people choose these terms to suit their needs.

From the names themselves, "centre-weighted"normally means that the entire field is metered with more weight given to the centre. "semi-spot" would lead me to beleive the entire field is not metered but a large spot in the middle. The difference will be in the smaller angle on your Nikon and the larger angle on the M.
