This report confirms my original belief that the hardware was finalized even at Photokina. There has been zero change in various photographs surfaced since...from Fuji's own web site to now at CES, including the "Made in Japan" markings.

Firmware tweaks can continue beyond camera launch.

It was ~85 yen to 1 USD at Photokina time, and now 83 yen to the dollar...so Fuji was fairly accurate in its original price quote. BTW, Fuji said quite clearly at Photokina [in the BJP video] that the price should be ~$1000, not BPS, not euro... I don't understand why many need to debate about anything else.

My biggest worried then was manual focusing was to be achieved by some weird switch...soon confirmed that MF is via the lens focusing ring.

Some wanted dedicated ISO control...we now know it's via the <Fn> button left of shutter button.

The only feature I couldn't yet find out is the function of the Convenient Command Level at the right thumb position...I hope the function would be user assignable...perhaps a couple of preset focal distances--for zone focusing at say f8 and f16.

"[X100] was my idea" 😀 ...and my money is ready.
 
I am under the impression that wheel is what changes the ISO (by default) and the other settings, by pressing that Fn button to toggle between settings.

So spin it out of the box and the ISO changes, press Fn once and whatever is next (wb?) is now going to be changed via the wheel.

I follow the X100 news very closely and have never read anywhere how ISO would be changed.

I can imagine the <Fn> button being used to toggle the "Exposure Compensation" dial into ISO, and the +/- 2-stop range would then become ISO value change...same difference really.

I can also see the same dial be toggle switched into a 5 position WB switch. However, a WB button is already available in the back...likely to simply bring up menu selection.
 
Frankie, Fuji noted ISO would be default of back lever in their email annnouncing Chapter 1 of the Story.

When they said ISO was default, I hoped it would adjust without press of Fn and then pressing Fn would bring up the option you set, such as WB. Just the way the previous poster described. That would be perfect. Crossing fingers.

In terms of price, I don't think $1200 is terrible. Look at the D7000 and the original price of the D90. About this price without a lens. Fuji are in the ballpark of fairness. If they go higher and get greedy, I jump ship.

What I don't like is the need to buy an additional adapter to screw on a filter and the hood for the fixed lens being extra. That's annoying. They should be in the box.
 
If the X100 picks up a big bunch of buyers in the first few months, it'll be fun watching the other manufacturer's response. Panasonic, Olympus, and Samsung seem ready to compete in this small APS-C type camera market. I hope a competition heats up... that'll bring the prices down! 🙂

Nikon did not get into fixed lens RF market, but Canon did and ended up dominating the field with Canonets... Canon also has a lot at stake, high-end P&S cameras are pretty much history, so the canon flagship G series p&s could get a makeover, but so far no one knows whats happening. Its as if the two big players are watching the smaller ones play all their cards and then they'll make their move.

Since form factor is the new trend, I could see Nikon changing the design body of their DSLRs. For instance a Nikon DSLR that has the same shape as classic Nikon SLRs i. e. FM2n would sell like crazy.
 
Rumour is that Nikon will announce its EVIL camera no later than March. Now, it's a rumour. BUT, if it has APS-C sensor, viewfinder and interchangeable lens, that would be compelling. The gap that the X100 is filling in the larger sensor/compact segment is viewfinder. And an interesting one, to boot.

The second part of that rumor is that the sensor in the nikon mirrorless will be smaller than the m4/3 sensor...

It seems that:

CES models are non-functional .. software not available.

Price $1000 - $1200

Fujifilm to finalize announcements in February and expects release in March.

That is all I got out of my search...

This is how I read it also, that it would work on the back wheel. How else would it work? Keep pressing the Fn button to toggle through the ISO? That doesn't make any sense. Common sense and .2 seconds of logic would point to that wheel adjusting whatever the Fn button is set to, let's just hope it works on whatever you've last left it on, without having to press Fn again.

We'll see once it comes out, but I'd bet American dollars that wheel is how you adjust the Fn commands.

I cannot read what was not written.

I can imagine a lot more...but that was not the point.

In the software/firmware, "shortcut" to a favourite, say ISO, can be assigned to a Fn button. However, unlike a keyboard, there is only a single button available in X100.

If so assigned, the Fn button could call up the ISO menu directly [without navigation] in the LCD for selection, or made adjustable by another means. [I can imagine the EVF ISO display made to blink and the Convenient Command Lever used to change values up or down...]

Until Fuji published the firmware architecture and more information, we don't really know...and debates are indeed pointless.

Nothing really new there either. However, there was this comment: 在展台墙壁上展示了一副据称使用X100工程样机拍摄的大幅猫咪照片，画质出众，景深柔美。

Translation: The wall at [Fuji's] stand displayed a large picture of a cat purportedly taken with the development version of the X100. The IQ was outstanding, and bokeh soft and beautiful.
