I have for some time been trying to find out what had happened to my forum friend John Carter, known to many here as Charjohncarter and on Flickr as Carter3John. Sadly I discovered after much digging about on the web that he passed away last November on Veterans Day. I have fond memories of John as a kind and knowledgable character and I admired his ability to wring every bit of detail out of a photo taken in the harshest California sunlight. I will miss him very much, but I would like to share memories of him here. He joined this forum in 2006 and was a frequent and eloquent contributor here. I for one am richer for knowing him. Please post your memories of this kind and gentle man.

John B.

Sorry to hear. He knew his stuff and was very helpful to me on several occasions. At one point, I tried to send him something for free, but he insisted on reimbursing my postage.

So sad to hear this. I really enjoyed John's contributions to the forum, and his response to threads I was involved with over the years. He was a class-act.

Just got home and saw your PM John... Thank You
Broke my heart to read. When I joined RFF back in 2008, John was always ever so kind in commenting on his experiences with lenses I would try and comment on my photos. Always a Gent, always a sunny happy go lucky disposition. Will miss him and his ways, and his beautiful colour photos !
need a drink now, rather sad and unsettled...
Will toast to his Wonderful photos, His New Journey and being blessed to have shared some time with him here on Rff.

Oh, so sad. He was such a big part of this forum. I really enjoyed all those colourful slides from the 60's-70's. He will be missed.

Thank you for letting us know; I wondered about his absence. I will really miss our conversations. He was an example of politeness that I shall try to follow.

That's sad to hear. I remember your post asking about him a while back, and I looked for John on a couple of other sites he frequented with no luck. I'd feared he might have died, but hadn't been able to find confirmation. John was a good friend to us.

Really sorry to hear about that. He was often on the forum, contributing thoughtful posts and some lovely images. I wonder how he felt about sharing the name of the famous Edgar Rice Burroughs character John Carter of Mars - to be honest, I used to think that he took that name as a username for the forum. RIP good sir.

Hi Chris. This about him posted by a Senior Mens club that he belonged to. It is the only clue to what had happened that I could find.

That’s sad. I’d hoped he was maybe just not yet liking the new format and would be coming back. Wish he could see the love here today.

This is hard to process... whenever he posted a comment in reply to something of mine I felt honored. And he was always very generous. Rest in peace, John Carter...
