Cheap BIN Iskra on eBay...

Looks good but I've learned to be very careful with Iskras, as odd as it sounds I'd ask the seller if he has run a test roll through the camera as it's the only way to test the advance/counter system.

They are IMHO a bit delicate in some respects, but the lens is a killer.

It cewrtainly does not look "mint", "new in box" etc, which takes the price down but not the shooting value, a good combination. But i agree, the counter could be shot. OTOH, nothing is irrepairable ;)

Certainly, even though a bit of care is needed to retrofit it with a red window, it can be done with the proper tools.

Iskra prices have jumped about $20-$30 in the last year, I recall that the BIN for a 'everything works properly' Iskra was around $60-$70 back then.

Anyway, in the end I've loved the results coming from your triplet Novar and sure was happily surprised with the simple Apotar as well, which proves that cheaper lenses can do a good job, mainly with those negative sizes.

Dominus Meniscum

I saw this and another one from Alex-Photo for $6 more. Due to some good things I have read on here about Alex-Photo, I BINed that one...no Yak hair for me. :p

I got a very nice one, mechanically and cosmetically, from an ebay auction about 2 months ago---- $76.00 shipped. I was surprised it didn't go for more, but no complaints, for sure. Kubanoid was the seller.

Just got an email back from the seller - it was tested with a roll of film and everything works.

I really love my Iskra.

Is there anything special to know about these cameras? I mean like with the 35MMs you have to cock before setting the shutter speed. I know the shutter is in the lens for this one, but any other ways I can screw up my Iskra?

Thanks...John

Just be gentle while turning the winder is really about it. The rest of the camera is quite sturdy and simple - very standard folder design really. You know you want it. The lens is one of the all time great Tessar designs (75mm/3.5 allegedly made with the last of the Zeiss glass liberated at the end of the Great Patriotic War.) and the shutter is decent.
