Hey folks, just wondering if anyone can provide some sources for cheap cheap pro film in Benelux (particularly Brussels or Bruges)? I'm running low, so I need to stock up within the next week.

I'm interested in Provia 400F and either HP5+ or Neopan 400. Mail-order isn't really an option, 'cause I don't have an address.

Cheers,
BJ

In Brussels in my experience the cheapest for most films seems to be "ali photo" in the Rue Du Midi. There are two photo shops as you go down that street, right next to each other, it's the first one going south. If they dont have what you need the shop next door might, the prices are more or less the same, i seem to remember triX was cheaper in the first, and the people who work in the second are complete pricks unless you're buying a Leica MP.

There's also a shop called Campion in the Chaussée d'Ixelles, probably the biggest photo shop in Brussels and they have a lot of (very overpriced) second-hand gear, actually its a separate shop across the street for the second hand stuff. Anyway they have a good selection of films.

Third option: a shop in the next street south of the "place St Catherine", cant remember the name of the street but the shop is called Photo Guy, they have a good stock of film, including some hard to find stuff like agfa Scala, but the prices are a little high.

If you need any more info let me know, I live in Brussels and I've been around most photography shops here 🙂

edit: by the way "Photo Guy" is closed on saturdays, at least in the afternoon, might be open in the morning I can't remember 🙂

Thanks for the tips. I suppose I should provide a frame of reference for what I think is expensive... I saw Provia 100F (the lady looked at me funny when I asked for 400F) in a shop here in Aachen (west Germany) for €9,- 🙁

It's got to be cheaper than that somewhere, right?

I dont use provia, but I'd guess somewhere between 5 an 7E for in the shops I listed. Velvia is around 9E in those shops. But film in general is bloody expensive in Europe I'm afraid :/

BJ, just as info, in the Netherlands at a reasonably "cheap" shop which can also do mail-order but not only, provia 100f (135) costs 70 e /10-pack, and 400f 90e/10-pack. I'm afraid it will be difficult to find it much cheaper than that. Colour negs and BW is not that bad, but slide is expensive.

Sorry, no help for Benelux prices but Walgreen's (a major U.S. drugstore chain) is advertising a four pack of their ISO 400 private brand film which is Agfa for $5.95 for the pack.
Quite a disparity even when you add the 8.25% New York sales tax to the bill. The sale is tomorrow through next Saturday. Today it will cost you a whopping $6.95.
