Hi
Was wondering if anyone has experience with the Canon 8800F and xpan negs. I am looking for a cheap scanner to pull my xpan work into my digital portfolio.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Get an Epson flatbed. I use the 4990, precursor to the 700 series, and it is great. I use it for MF, 35mm, and panoramics with no problems at all.

If you can find a used canoscan fs4000us, think about getting that. I got mine for under $300.00 and the negative holder takes strips 6 images long but with only 2 crossbars, I think it fits the xpan negatives perfectly, thus 3 negs long. I also think the dedicated film scanners give better results for 35mm than flatbeds. Bob.

I believe the Canon FS4000us will NOT scan the entire panorama negative from the Xpan. I just read a review of it the other day. It said if you use an xpan you would have to divide the negatives and use software to reconnect the panorama. They said to use some other scanner..

I'm using an Epson 2450 (ancient I know) to scan 35, 120 and 4x5 negs and the 35 carrier has no frames slots so I can scan wide negs easily. Scanning negs shot with the panorama adapter in my Mamiya 7 and also from a modified Nikon F2 is painless. Preview it, then drag the crop marks and yer good to go.

I use Epson V500, which is less than $200. I use it for Mamiya 7 pano as well as regular medium format films, and regular 35mm films.
It's good enough for my purpose plus, it is not so expensive...
By the way, this is my first post and I really like the amount of information this site has!!
