Cheap source/brands of 39mm filters?

With all due respect, I'd NEVER put a cheap filter on a good lens. Any filter degrades the image somewhat and a cheap one even more. If you don't want to spend a lot, buy a used, high quality one in exc. condition. They depreciate fast after the 1st owner.

You might also try a step ring to say 40.5mm size, for which filters may be easier/cheaper to find.


Which reminds me, zuikologist, a New York Times photographer suggested to me many years ago, when I asked the same question, to get a 39mm to 49mm step-up ring, so that I could use 49mm filters...which are very inexpensive...I have both the 39-to-49 and the 39-to-46, both of which allow me to use both 49 and 46mm filters and 49mm and 46mm lens hoods...
