Check out this Oly micro 4/3 preview clip

Is she really small or is that camera quite big?
It looks practically the size of an old Canon QL to me.

Interesting tho.

I'm excited, too.

Don't want to stop the excitement in any way, but...

In the Japanese language press release circulated on line (cited here last week I guess) the CEO had already made public Oly's intention to depart significantly from the aesthetic dimensions of the mock up shown on the YouTube video.

But the CEO also clearly stated a fundamental link to PEN heritage.

if they did come out with that off fabric thing how long until those of us here would be replacing it with pokadot cow hide vulkinit stuff

either way, I cant wait

Olympus have said the production model will look very different to that (i think personally) gorgeous little concept.

I'd expect an almost completely different camera, but around that sort of size.

Only 3 weeks to go :)

It is foolish to read "optical viewfinder" into that?

Not foolish, but unlikely. The only recent camera from Oly that has an excellent optical viewfinder is the E-3, but that's their top of the line pro-quality DSLR.

But I'm clinging to a small hope that there will be an external viewfinder for this new camera.

I don't know, I think it's pretty small.... it's designed to have real lenses and the new aps-c sensor in it remember, and it's around the same size as the sigma DP range, but with interchangeable lenses. Can't really ask for much smaller...

I think it is foolish to think this type of camera would have an optical viewfinder, that is not what the technology is about. The removed the mirror so they could slim down the camera and give a more point and shoot style camera experience of framing with LCD's. There is nothing stopping you from sticking and accessory finder from voigtlander or the sort on there but....hasn't it become obvious that most camera companies have forgotten how to make decent optical viewfinders anymore? Well that and they think no one wants them but I dont think those of us who do want a good optical viewfinder are so few in number.... just imagine if Ricoh put the finder from the GR1V on the next GRD type camera, they think people would not notice?

I personally think the best way to keep costs down and keep size down is for external finders. External finders could be bundled with prime lenses and that keeps it simple and effective. For even better effectiveness they should make the hotshoe have an electrical contact with the external VF and display shutter/aperture settings + AF confirm in the externl VF.

How would they even put an optical VF in that camera with interchangeable lenses and no mirror?

If it looks anything like the mockup

I'm in... but if it's still a clunky large hunk of black stuff with huge lenses, I'll stick with my Fuji Z5fd.

What I'm hoping for is something very similar to the mock up, but with the option of a removable EVF like the Ricoh GX200 accessory (VF-1), that slides into the hot shoe, and so that as well as the prime lenses it would be possible to accommodate a small Oly zoom. Sure, the EVF might not be quite as good as an optical viewfinder but there has to be a tradeoff for small size and for my money this would be close to the perfect combination of features.

That's the one that's been shown for a good while--I don't think there's anything new here. I agree--no VF--no interest. Actually--I have heard there are to be 4 lenses announced with it--those I'll have more interest in as I have a G1.

There won't be a EVF on this model, I can almost say for certain. At this size an EVF unless it's a clip on hot shoe one like the gx200 won't be feasible.

I'd say they release a more serious model later with an EVF that's slightly larger.

It doesn't matter as Olympus have stated the final is quite a departure from the mock-up, but I thought the size was fine. It looked the same size as a 35SP, which is to say ... same as an M. Funny to have rangefinder folks saying they didn't like the size. :D

I like the looks of the mockup, and sizewise it kind of reminded me of my yashica GS. I hope there's an external EVF though...
