Chicago Central Camera - Happiness is a wall of film...

My shop is less than a block away, and I drop over to Central once a week or so, just to say hi and see what's new, buy some little something. I've been doing that since 1984.

Central Camera and Altman's bring back memories of the time I lived in Chicago and going to a camera store had supplanted watching a washing machine tumble on Saturday nights. Seems like last century. Wait... it was. Good to see one is still going.

Old family business and the last of the Chicago loop camera stores. Dozens have folded , but the one I miss most is Altmans. This was a three story store , cameras on the first, darkroom on the second including a working darkroom, and studio lights and large format on the third. Easily six times the size of Central.

The managers morphed it into Helix which was a really nice store in new location(s), but now is mail order only.

Back to Central. If you want some old stuff, they have drawers full.

I go to Chicago every year to visit family. How have I never been there!? I'm going to Chicago at the tail end of this month, so I'll be checking it out in person. 🙂

I bought a Fujinon 400T from the Helix incarnation. Many years later I had it shipped fro Rochester to Precision for CLA, then sold it via eBay to someone in ... Chicago.

Wonder if they still have my M2R, traded in 1973? I'd gladly offer what they gave me for it to buy it back. Great store!!
