I'm taking a trip to the windy city..Where should I go

For photography?

For fun?

For relaxed, loungy nightlife?

For whatever??

something else I like to do is visit the photography galleries...Catherine Edelman Gallery, Sneider Gallery, and Deiter Gallery
(google them) they are located very close together and while I can't afford their prices it is always fun to look. also the Museum of Contemporary Photography http://www.mocp.org/ is a nice space plus another thing you can see for free

When is your visit?
Are you staying downtown?
Will you have a car? Companion? Kids?

There is a lot to see and experience, especially beyond the touristy spots and particularly after May arrives.
Narrowing down your interests (besides photo) and situation will help.

Whether you have a car or not... the museums are world class. I used to take the city for granted until I visited DC, and overseas... perhaps only those in London exceed what the windy city has to offer.

If you do have a car, lake shore drive from far south near the University of Chicago far north into the northern burbs provides some incredible views. If the weather is nice, the lake front is intoxicating. If not... the clouds bring some dramatic light in and around the city.

As for night life...I'm a terrible source...but as the previous resident wrote.. tell us what you like to eat or do. The city has much to offer in the way of food as well as some unqiue night life... Second City (improv), etc.

the cultural center... it's a beautiful building across from millenium park. It's worth walking inside and seeing the glass dome. I also highly recommend a trip to the blue line damen stop (wicker park) great neighborhood, great restaurants, record shops, and book stores. A fun place to photograph, and then find a beer or two.

Check out the Art Institute's photography dept., also the Museum of Contemporary Art might be showing some photography. As far as places to photo, the lakefront, the Loop, N. Michigan Ave., the U of Chicago, any of the dozens of interesting neighborhoods that feature particular ethnic/cultural sites, on and on. Have fun!
