I used to have 15/25/35/50 when I had my Epson R-D1s. Worked very well for me.

For me, it is a 28 & a 40 almost 90% of the time. It keep my camera bag lighter, and I don't have to do as much "deciding." If I use a 50 on the camera it is the only lens I take with me.and they are...?

i don't carry all the lenses with me at one time.
i have 2 bodies and normally only use 2 lenses at a time.
so i think in terms of combinations.
lately i have been using the 21 and 50 together.
other times, the 15 and 35.
if i take one camera it usually has the 28 on it.

FWIW, I'd probably do the 15, 21, 28, 50, and skip the 35.
so 4 lenses. just not the same 4 you were picking.

I would go for 4. Your first choice seems too close. But then again you are the one shooting
I have 28mm, 40mm and 75mm. I would probably add something on the wider end most likely 15mm for myself.

Currently, my RF kit is 15/35/50. Eventually I hope to add the ZM 25mm. So, 15/25/35/50 is my vote

R-D1 is for street and travelling, so as less as possible.
For your choice 15/28/50 (23/43/76) 3 lenses, you won´t need more!!!
For my choice, very sometimes 21, most "28/35/50" (32 ...... 43/53/76) two lenses,
and I admire people using only 1 lens, being able to reduce to the max.
A 35 cron, a 50 nokton and a Tele-Elmarit are less than 3% (alltogether) in use. In case I need a realy choice of lenses, I take my dslr. Its already very hard to keep a 21 horizontal with a RF and very easy to do the same with a 12 (not 21!) with a dslr. And it is also very hard to focus a 90 with a R-D1, no limit with a dslr.
So, all what I mean is, that the power of a R-D1 is not a big bag and wasting time by changing lenses. The strength is to keep it easy.

Exactly what I was about to say! Unless the lenses have very different characteristics - speed, flare, contrast etc - I can't see a point to having so many, personally.
That said, I am tempted sometimes to pick up a 35 or 40mm between my Ultron 28 f/2 and Summicron 50 f/2 - but it would have to give quite different results in some way to be worth it to me...otherwise I'll just spend all my time missing images, while I'm halfway through a lens change.

Pick 4, Joe. 21/28 and 28/35 are too close to each other - you can always crop from the wider side.
Or 3: 15/28/50 seems ideal.

what about 15/28/50/85 ?
with the rd1, i find the 21 and 35 are being used less and less and i am enjoying the 50 more.

you can see my predicament eh? lol!
if i had the money i would keep everything!
the 50 is staying for sure and probably the 28. the 15 would only ever go if i could afford the zeiss 15 (never gonna happen). i love the 35 but on the rd1 it's a more like a 50 (never a favourite). if i had to choose between the 15 and 21 fov i would go with the 15. but i would love to have all and only zeiss lenses...

Joe:
I have 4 regular lenses for the RD1, but the one that stays on the camera most of the time is my 35 Cron. I have toyed with getting a 15, and the new m-coupled 15 is tempting, but my wife is in chemotherapy now, and I've been divesting rather than acquiring. I sold my Mamiya 6 and my Rollei SL66 to help fund her treatment.
In any case my primaries are the 35 which stays on the camera 90% of the time and the 75 Vt. I also have a 90 Elmarit, and a Canon 50 1.4 but the rangefinder base makes focusing the Elmarit problematic.
Are you still using the Ikon?

while i love the zm 35 and the 35mm fov generally, on the rd1 it is more of a 50 and that fov has never done much for me. i like the 15 as it's more like a 24 on the rd1 and that's a fave. i am surprised at how much i like the 28 on the rd1 and will likely keep that. i am tempted to get rid of the 21 and the 35 despite their both being great lenses.
right now i am thinking 15/28/50/85 and hoping the 85 wont be a problem to focus, but it's a f4 and should be ok i would think.
and, very sorry to hear about your wife jeff. i hope it all works out well.

The 85/90 is not a whole lot of fun on the R-D1s. At f4 with your 85mm, you get a little over 7 inches of DOF at 10 feet. Even when I used a 1.33x magnifier, it still wasn't a sure thing. Add to that the fact that you'll be guessing at the framing/composition, and you have a slow shooting process with built-in guesswork.
