Choosing BW filter for a TLR - orage or yellow?

Hello,

I want to buy a black-and-white filter for my Minotla Autocord which is to be used as a 'general' BW filter when I want to enhance the sky/clouds.

I do not want to reach the effect of completely black skies, but I would want the effect to be pronounced.

So - what filter should I get? I will be buying a Heliopan filter as these are available in Bay I bayonet.

I am considering either dark yellow (Nr.15) or Orange (Nr 22). For details see the graphs towards bottom of THIS page.

Your help would be appreciated.

Neither one will make the sky black. And I don't think of yellow as doing that much to separate the sky from the clouds. Think about what you want to lose in film speed. I figure 1 stop for yellow, not quite 2 for orange. If you can handle the effective loss of speed, I'd go with orange.

Thanks. I am not after black skies, but I do want to give the sky some contrast. I guess I should be able to 'digest' 2 stops as this filter will get used with generally sunny weather ( and I keep the tiny aluminum Manfrotto table-tripod with me most of the time)

I find yellow generally does the job. I also like the yellow-green bay I filter for my Rolleicord.

I am also considering the green (or yellow-green) filter as when doing conversion from color to BW in Photoshop I find that I often find applying green filter most pleasing (also for portraits).

Maybe a combination of yellow-green and orange would be an optimal one. I just trying to get one filter first.

Medium Yellow is what you want. Smooths out skin tones, lightens foliage and darkens skies, but not unnaturally. I leave it on my Rollei all the time. Costs you a stop.
