Christmas Came Early

Christmas came early this year. My friend Dawn gifted me with her Grandfather's camera. I opened the case and what a great surprise. This camera has been on my "Gee, that looks interesting" list. It came with the flash, everyready case, working light meter and storage bag; all circa 1961. I've got the 35mm and 100 mm lenses on the way. This camera is ready to start taking pictures again. Thank you Dawn.

Strange little beasts - watch out for the cocking lever as it's way too easy for it to hit your finger & throw off the exposure. OTOH, the Cintar lens is capable of very good performance if you are up to it.

My first camera was an Argus "Brick", bought for ~$15 in 1980. Later I was given a canon AE-1 with a zoom lens. The Argus took noticeably better pictures. Congratulations!

Oooh, that looks in fantastic nick, it really does! If you get over the ergonomics-from-hell (and the viewfinder that shows about 2/3 of what you will get on your neg, thus putting your careful framing all to cock :bang🙂, you will have a great deal of fun with it! There is definitely a masochistic element to Brick-use, but the results can be very satisfying.

Mine keeps damaging other people's DSLRs as they walk into walls while staring at it... It also damaged me one night when I had it in my coat pocket, and slipped off the pedals on my bike. It drew blood - and survived unmarked. Some beast!

Congrats on a pretty cool camera. I dissed mine for quite a long time, thinking it was just a strangely shaped oddity that was too archaic to do anything significant. I was wrong! Used with properly paid attention it will yield very nice pictures, much nicer than you'd expect.

That camera is a Colormatic model I believe. I have one and it is lotsa fun to use. I have
a little flickr set of images with this "Brick" if your interested. Pretty sharp lens on it.
