Our third longer trip with the trailer we got in 2014, this time for a week in Utah, about 700 miles from where we live in California. Just my better half and me, no dogs. We spread the arriving trip over two days, and returned in one day (55 miles/h speed limit ....). So we had 4 days in Utah, staying close to Hwy 15, using two days for Zion National Park and 2 days in Bryce Canyon. First time in both national parks for both of us.

Most pictures below taken with my M, and either Elmarit 21/2.8, VM Ultron 28/2, or Nokton 50/1.1.

Our camp on Christmas day, it had snowed the night before:

Very pretty area, a view of the mountains most of the time, drives always started along the "Virgin River".

(I took this as an Adams quotation, totally different place of course)

Interesting housing and farm animals (this one taken with my Sony A850)

Zion with Clouds

Zion with Clouds

My newly discovered favorite National Park. After the snow, we had a cloudy day in Zion, nice for high contrast pictures, using red or orange filter in post.

Bryce Canyon

2 days in the sun and snow at Bryce Canyon, which provides wonderful rainbow'ed layers of strangely shaped sand-stones.

We were lucky to see wild sheep in Zion. This is a photo taken by my wife, with her Panasonic u4/3 system.

And that's all folks. Happy new year.

What is the motorcycle in your avatar? Looks like a ZX14, but maybe not...
Thanks!

Thanks for posting and Happy New Year!

Thanks for posting and Happy New Year!

Dear Roland,

My photographic preferences are birds and wildlife, and the locations where they live. Odd choices I know on a rangefinder forum, but since I still shoot film on occasion I enjoy looking in, and I have learned a lot.

I really enjoyed your photos and I'm glad you and your wife had a good jaunt with your camper. As one who owned a camper that was kept at a beautiful campsite but rarely used, I like to see when people get out and about.

Happy New Year, and I hope you get many more trips in going forward.

Regards,

Tim Murphy

Love the color work Roland. I know I mentioned him on your challenge thread but Ben Horne is a LF photographer from the San Diego area whose YouTube video's are incredible. If you really want to learn about Zion I suggest you watch all his current & past video's. Ben is currently uploading his fall 16 Zion trip. He advises on times to stay out of the washes like morning hours when mountain lions are hunting food.

The Avatar was taken on my BMW R1100S, Paul. Don't have that bike anymore. After it passed 100k miles in 2014, I traded and commute on a K1600GT now.
