Cine / Movie film experiment... Feedback?

Hello All,

I mentioned this project in a post on another forum earlier this year and now it's taking shape I thought I would share it here. Inspired by CineStill but a bit deterred by the price, I've gone ahead and created my own remjet free film!

The remjet is removed by a commercial lab and currently I spool the stock myself. If theres enough interest then I would move to have the film commercially spooled and packed. Maybe with a kickstater?

Just looking to let people know and see if it's worth continuing the project.
Questions welcome.

Looks interesting. I suppose with the remjet missing, you'd get some flares or halos around bright objects?

I'd love to see more samples, the colours you have on the blog so far are beautiful. If you do a kickstarter I'd pitch in for some rolls for sure.

Hi, I'm rating the film as 640iso. My testing has lead me to this speed as i often felt 800 was a bit thin and did not scan too well. I've not made any optical/ra4 prints - So hence why this is still an experiment and open for revision.

Re: halos. I've only found it on shots with light source in shot and in focus. Sometimes it looks good, other times less so.

The kickstarter is more a thought if the film proves popular.

Thanks for the feedback on colour of my scans. It's hard to know with colour neg I find.

I'm intersted in more motion picture film being made available for still photography.
I've been shooting Fuji 64D motion picture film, then sending it to a lab that develops film with a remjet.
However I'm shooting the film with the remjet still on, it would be interesting to do a comparison between your film with it removed and the stuff I'm currently shooting.

For the idiot of the group (me), how does this work? If the remjet is still on, does one need to rate the film differently or is it just a matter of finding a lab that can develop such a film?

The latter. While there are enough labs around, most of them will reject film loaded into 135 cartridges. These specialized cine labs use continuous processors set up to deal with 30m+ rolls, and don't have the machinery and staff to chain 1.5m short fragments of film without either exposing them or creating irregularities in their process flow.

Remjet is just a anti-scratch (and to a lesser degree anti-flare) backing on the plastics side of the film.

I've got a bunch of Fuji films i'm working on testing and putting out later this year. Currently playing with Reala 500D..... hopefully have some samples to post soon.

Other people who've bought a few rolls of the 640T are starting to post back images to me - hope to post those real soon too.
